Lanvin Winter 2023: The Joy of Making

At a former Cistercian college from the 13th century, Lanvin presented its Fall-Winter 23’ collection. The show took us through an observation of the history of the oldest fashion house still operating in Paris. Through a scenario of arches, 53 looks walked down the runway, giving us glamorous vibes with modern tailoring.

For this season, classic meets contemporary with studded boots, tailored jackets, and deep V chemises. Romantic and feminine dresses in sheer fabrics, embroideries, flowers, and polka dots display a modern take on their heritage. And some pops of colors such as red, purple, and green, alongside croc coats changed the mood of the classic black, some of it reminding us of the codes of the house, while others introduced it to a new era.

Subtle hints to Madame Lanvin’s biggest inspirations were at the core of the collection: the eighteenth century, the Renaissance, and the Medieval were portrayed in a series of everyday dresses, blazers, and accessories. The houses’ connections to haute couture were seen in the exquisite finishes, details, and tailoring of each garment. And, as expected, handmade embroideries that show the savoir-faire of the historic fashion house.

Lanvin masters the art of fabrics with wool gazar, rich silks, lustrous velvets, sequins, and crystal embroideries, creating an astounding visual experience characterized by clean silhouettes and textures.
