Zimmermann Opens Boutique in Hamburg’s Historic Paulsenhaus
Zimmermann has opened its newest boutique in Hamburg, marking the brand’s second German location. Set within the storied Paulsenhaus on Neuer Wall, the city’s premier luxury shopping boulevard, the boutique situates the Australian label within Hamburg’s cultural and creative landscape.
Returning to Roots
For Creative Director and Co-Founder Nicky Zimmermann, the opening is deeply personal. “Hamburg is where my father grew up before migrating to Australia as a teenager, so this opening is incredibly special to Simone and myself,” she notes. “It’s exciting to return to our roots and deliver a boutique that celebrates German design codes with a contemporary approach.”

A Dialogue Between Heritage and Modernity
Designed with Studio McQualter, the boutique bridges historic and contemporary influences. The Wilhelminian-style façade of the Paulsenhaus is reflected inside through bold structural gestures and refined finishes. A blackened steel entry frame, high-gloss walls, and Italian brutalist sconces frame the space, while a large artwork by Australian artist Birdie Gillman anchors the first room.
High-gloss white walls, steel-framed niches, and custom glass displays repeat throughout, leading visitors deeper into the boutique. Bronze mirrored thresholds connect the spaces, culminating in a more intimate setting — Zimmermann’s signature immersive retail experience.

Immersive Design Codes
The lounge balances warmth and sophistication, with parquet floors, matte white walls, and a newly installed fireplace clad in vintage copper tiles. Le Corbusier armchairs sit opposite 1930s Dutch Art Deco pieces beneath a sculptural pendant. Here, clients can explore the brand’s footwear collection, while fitting rooms in lilac, yellow, and earthy tones add subtle character.

Hamburg As A Global Stage
With its historic architecture and cultural vibrancy, Hamburg provides the ideal backdrop for Zimmermann’s expansion in Europe. The new boutique honours heritage while introducing a fresh chapter in the brand’s evolving global narrative.
