The Beauty In Waste – Diesel’s Spring/Summer 2025 Collection

For their Spring/Summer 2025 collection, Glenn Martens, creative director of Diesel, has once again proven that the brand leads the way in denim innovation. If you thought the fabric had reached its limits, Diesel has reimagined it, pushing the boundaries and revealing a fresh, exciting side to denim.

Instead of a traditional runway, spectators were immersed in a unique experience, surrounded by a staggering 14,800 kg of denim scraps—transforming the space into a statement of both creativity and sustainability.

As each fashion season passes, it’s always refreshing to see which brands push sustainable fashion forward. While it can be disheartening when brands don’t present any new sustainability goals, Diesel’s Milan Fashion Week show stood out. “There is beauty in waste, in what is distressed and destroyed. It’s in the circularity of denim waste, and into the distressing that we build into the collection,” says Glenn Martens.

In fact, the 14,800 kg of denim scraps from the show set will be repurposed to create denim rolls for use in the automotive and insulation industries—further underscoring Diesel’s commitment to sustainability.

The show opened with a bold statement: denim micro shorts embroidered with extra-long fringing, a striking feature that can’t be achieved through conventional distressing techniques, setting a new benchmark for craftsmanship.

The collection also featured a leather double-breasted jacket treated to resemble denim, paired with distressed jeans with tufted front seams. Fringing appeared across a denim chambray slip dress and jeans, while cotton sweatshirts, mini-dresses, and tanks showcased devoré jacquard necklines, creating a distressed effect by burning away cotton to reveal tulle beneath.

Tailoring constructed from double loom jacquard revealed intricate weaves when lasered, and Prince of Wales checks adorned jersey tanks, long-sleeve dresses, and PVC bikinis, all finished with Diesel’s signature fringing. What truly stood out were the outerwear pieces and dresses adorned with long, flowing strands of shredded denim fringe, elegantly draped around the neckline.

In conclusion, Diesel’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection exemplifies Glenn Martens’ belief that “there is beauty in waste.” By repurposing denim scraps and embracing distressed, deconstructed designs, the collection transforms what is typically discarded into something innovative and beautiful.
