A new era in fashion emerges combining ethics and aesthetics with digitalized tailoring – Balenciaga Fall Winter 2018 RTW

With Balenciaga’s FW 2018 ready-to-wear show a new era in fashion begins. It marks a debut for Balenciaga’s collaboration with the World Food Programme giving the show a greater purpose then just focusing on the garments.  The collaboration could be seen in t-shirts, hoodies and accessories with the WFP logo and slogan “Saving Lives, Changing Lives”.
The show opened with garments focusing on the shape and countering the body, continued with layered garments, bold patterns and ended with wider silhouettes in excessive layers for the perfect winter cover up.
A wide range of accessories could be seen, from ski google-like glasses to a variety of tote, shoulder, and waist bags. All is bright shades and bold patterns. The brand’s iconic Speed Trainer and Triple S were replaced with a new must have chunky runner in contrasting colors.
The heart of the show was the strict sculpted hourglass jackets. A result of digitalized tailoring. A method were bodies is 3D scanned, fittings made in a computer file and moulds are printed out. This is the first time a luxury brand is using this technology for coats and it is indeed a revolution in the fashion industry.
