Chanel Haute Couture 2025: Celebrating the Legacy of Gabrielle Chanel

Chanel Haute Couture has been synonymous with timeless elegance, savoir-faire, and creative genius for the past 110 years. The Spring/Summer 2025 Haute Couture presentation, held at the Grand Palais, pays homage to the House’s unmatched workmanship while also embracing a whimsical study of color—a key component of Gabrielle Chanel’s heritage. Chanel was known for transforming fashion with her use of black, but she was also an exceptional colourist, working with a wide range of hues. This season, Chanel’s Creation Studio reinvents her vision with a collection that flows from the first light of day to the mystique of the night sky.

The runway itself, designed by scenographer Willo Perron, was a powerful visual statement: a double C structure resembling the infinity symbol, paying tribute to Chanel Haute Couture’s continual reinvention. As the models walked, composer Gustave Rudman’s unique composition, written in cooperation with Michel Gaubert, set the stage for a collection that combined tradition and modernity. From a dawn-hued silk crêpe set and a bright yellow tweed suit to a deep midnight blue ensemble embellished with celestial patterns, each look captured the passage of time via colour and texture. Strappy shoes in sky blue, violet, and cream completed the looks, evoking the fluidity of day-to-night transitions.

True to the House’s signature codes, the collection breathed new life into the iconic Chanel tweed with braided details, embroidered floral patterns, and linings in vibrant golden, pink, green, and royal blue. Details became playful yet sophisticated, with rock crystal, metal, and rhinestone buttons changing into moons, suns, and camellias, alluding to the Maison’s heavenly influence. The designs experimented with proportions, some stiff and precise, others ethereal and fluid, with painted lace and embroidered chiffon simulating the feel of tweed, providing the appearance of weightlessness.

Chanel’s Spring/Summer 2025 Haute Couture collection was a manifesto of elegance and precision that reinforced the brand’s perpetual commitment to excellence. The House continues to create a dreamy vision of couture by balancing history and innovation, with each stitch telling a tale of legacy, craftsmanship, and passion. Gabrielle Chanel famously said, “Comfort has forms. Love has colours.” With this latest collection, colour becomes poetry in motion, an expression of Chanel’s timeless allure.
