Louis Vuitton opens the doors of its new flagship store in Ginza, Tokyo.
Louis Vuitton re-opens the doors of its signature flagship store in Tokyo, more specifically in the district of Ginza.
The newborn building was designed by the architect Jun Aoki and Peter Marino, and it rises in the exact location that the French fashion house has occupied since 1981. The two designers have mutated the location by acquiring inspiration from the natural element of water, resulting in a modern structure that looks like a waterfall. The building was also inspired by the art piece “Wave Blue” (1977) by Kimiko Fujimura, hanging on the walls in the back of the store.
The building features seven floors, four of which are dedicated to retail:
“The main level comprises women’s leather goods, watches & jewelry, and the permanent pop-in space, with additional women’s leather goods, as well as accessories, travel, and fragrance located on the second floor. The women’s universe – including ready-to-wear and shoes – extends across the third floor; while directly above on the fourth floor is the complete men’s universe. VIC and VIP salons can be found on the sixth floor; and on the uppermost level, are Le Café V and Le Chocolat V, the debut of Louis Vuitton as chocolatier”
The sense of flow, the color reflection, and the metaphor of water are therefore the key elements that give life to the store and allow the viewer to live a very distinctive experience.
In addition to showcasing the latest fashion products, the store will also present exclusive pieces, starting with a limited re-edition of Rei Kawakubo’s Celebrating Monogram collaboration bag (2014).
