Gosha Rubchinskiy x Burberry – The iconic pieces to the post-soviet streetwear scene

Gosha Rubchinskiy presents a second collaboration with Burberry for his AW18 collection at the Yeltsin Centre museum in Yekaterinburg, Russia.

Gosha Rubchinskiy adapts, for the second time, Burberry’s iconic pieces to the post-soviet streetwear scene. For his AW18 collection, the focus shifted towards outerwear, shoes, and scarves fashioned with the classic check pattern. The emblematic trench coat, which is reconstructed of cotton and gabardine, is only one of the outerwear pieces he reintroduced in his 13 piece collection by combining trench and car coat elements. Other pieces include oversized duffle jackets and check flannel shirts as well as bucket hats.

Originally Gosha Rubchinskiy used to capture his friends in photographic and cinematic works and assist other fashion designers on shoots before deciding to launch his own brand.

‘Christopher and I have a great understanding of each other’s work. After a strong SS18 collaboration and my photographic participation in Burberry’s September show through the Here We Are zine and exhibition, we wanted to take our collaboration one step further. It was important that Burberry be part of my new collection as it was one of the first iconic western brands to reach Russia after the Soviet collapse. It was very popular here in the 90’s, so much so that Boris Yeltsin can even be seen wearing a Burberry scarf in pictures from the time in the Museum where we presented the show.’ – Gosha Rubchinskiy

During Burberry’s ‘Here We Are’ he exhibited never before seen works at the Old Session House while capturing current British youth dressed in Burberry designs. The exhibition included photographs, installations and other projects which had been displayed in Hong Kong during the month of November last year and will be showcased at the ‘Here We Are’ exhibition in Paris from 26th January 2018 until the 4th February 2018.

Christopher Bailey describes Gosha as very talented with the ability to capture his vision of post-soviet youth culture in everything he does; from styling to casting to shows while enjoying every moment of it. Last week, their previous collection launched online and in selected stores around the world including Burberry and Dover Street Market. Their AW18 collection will be launching in July 2018.
